History Primer

See why Second Manassas was described by one Union soldier as the "very votex of hell."

Audio Tour & Guidebook Features
The battlefield of Second Manassas is truly one of the forgotten gems of Civil War battlefields. Sure, you can drive around the battlefield and look at the cannons and read a few plaques but at the end of the day you probably still won't understand what happened here in late August of 1862. But if you want to explore this battlefield and leave it a little smarter, then TravelBrains has created a tour just for you. We have combined the knowledge of an expert with the power of multimedia to create an audio-visual tour that both informs and entertains. Listen to the stories of the men who fought the battle and see exactly where the action occurred by looking in your guidebook. Battle maps, famous historical photographs and sketches help you imagine just what happened here on the plains of Manassas. The multimedia tour is a hallmark of TravelBrains and an absolute necessity to truly understand the history of this great battle.
The Audio Tour (Tape or CD)
Former Manassas National Military Park ranger Chris Bryce will lead you on a memorable tour of the Second Manassas Battlefield. As a ranger at the park, Chris has conducted tours for hundreds of visitors and foreign dignitaries. Contained on one cassette (or CD), the tour takes you to the most important locations on the battlefield and explains the strategy and tactics of the commanders who fought the battle as well as the personal stories of the soldiers that they led.
The TravelBrains audio tour takes approximately two hours to complete . Listening to the audio tour in your car, you will follow the same tour signs as the National Park's tour route. Chris Bryce will guide you around the battlefield covering the battle in chronological order. Dramatic battle sound effects accompany the descriptions of the fighting and bring the battle to life.
